Q: Do you need a prescription for the V-Com?
A: While the V-Com itself does not require a prescription, PAP devices and masks do require a prescription. We recommend discussing V-Com with your Physician and/or care team prior to use.
Q: How long will I need to use the V-Com?
A: How long you use V-Com is completely up to you. There’s no need to remove it, it’s designed to make your PAP therapy more comfortable. Most people will develop tolerance to the peak flows and pressures of PAP therapy over a period of weeks or months. Once you can easily tolerate the peak flows and pressures, you can remove your V-Com device. If you feel you still need the V-Com device, simply re-install it until you are ready to try PAP therapy without it.
Q: Where can I obtain a replacement V-Com device?
A: Please reach out to the supplier that provided your initial V-Com to learn more about purchasing a replacement device.
Q: Will my insurance cover the V-Com device?
A: Insurance plans and coverage vary from payor to payor. In general, this device is not covered by insurance (including Medicare) as it is considered a comfort accessory. We recommend reaching out to your specific insurance company if you have concerns or questions about your medical coverage.
Q: Can I share my V-Com device with another PAP user?
A: No, the V-Com is a single-use device. It should not be used or placed on more than one patient.
Q: Is it okay to remove & replace the V-Com device while my PAP machine is on (running)?
A: No, your PAP device should be turned off when removing and replacing the V-Com. Placing the V-Com device in an active breathing circuit could possibly affect algorithms for auto-titration and respiratory event detection. Always turn the PAP device off first, place V-ComTM device in the breathing circuit, and then turn the PAP device back on.
Q: I use a mask with my Non-Invasive Ventilator (NIV) or Auto Servo Ventilation (ASV) unit. Can I use V-Com?
A: Regardless of the device you are using, you should always consult with your physician prior to the use of V-Com. In addition, V-Com affects inspiratory PAP more than expiratory PAP, which may decrease pressure support and tidal volume during noninvasive ventilation therapy. V-Com has not been tested in adaptive servo ventilation and average volume-adjusted pressure support breathing circuits.
Q: How often do I need to replace the V-Com device?
A: We recommend that the V-Com be replaced every three months. If there is any damage to the device, or if there is any impeding of airflow, the device should be replaced.
